Thyroid Cancer Awareness Month: September 2012

Since 2000, September has represented Thyroid Cancer Awareness Month. It’s a month I spend encouraging my loved ones to get neck checks, especially since the American Cancer Society estimates that there will be 56,460 new cases of thyroid cancer diagnosed in the United States this year. Early detection makes a big difference with every cancer, and since most thyroid cancer patients do not experience any symptoms in the early stages, requesting a neck check during a medical visit is important.
